How are earrings made of 14k gold composed?
Our earrings are all made of 14k yellow gold or 14k white gold. 14 karat gold is also known as 585. The alloy consists of 58.5% pure gold. Because pure yellow gold is a very soft material, it would be too soft for jewellery production without being combined with other metals. It must therefore be alloyed with harder metals to make it more durable.
Typical structure of a 14k gold alloy:

- approx. 30% silver
- approx. 11.5% copper
This composition makes our earrings stable, durable and at the same time pleasantly lightweight to wear.
How can I recognize real gold earrings?
In Europe, real gold is marked with a standardized hallmark. This indicates the exact gold content in parts per thousand. All of our gold earrings are marked with a 585 hallmark, which indicates that the alloy contains 58.5% gold. The hallmark allows you to tell whether the gold is solid.
The difference between solid gold and gold-plated
Earrings that have been gold-plated are usually made from an inexpensive base metal, such as brass or stainless steel. Only a wafer-thin layer on the surface is made of gold. This gold layer wears away quickly due to friction, water or other environmental factors. The gold layer wears away particularly quickly at the clasp due to the repeated opening and closing, revealing the underlying material.
